Worst Lede Of The Week- 12.6.06

In this edition of WLotW, a heretofore unseen ailment. The scribe should be mindful of literary flourishes sticking out amongst the plainer text. Please, sally forth amongst the offending prose:
NEW YORK (AP) — Andy Rooney has never been shy about his opinions, but now he’s being bedeviled by somebody else’s words being circulated under his name.
Being bedeviled? Is he a southern belle vexed by the July heat? Does he become so exasperated with the imposter that he rips the few miserable hairs left on his fallow head into the air and scream at night? Maybe on an otherwise plain evening dining out with his wife, she unfortunately interrupts his frustrated thoughts on the false missive by asking him to pass the salt. He instead delivers a devastating right cross into the lady’s left cheekbone leaving her spilt upon the restaurant floor.
“Never mind me,” he croaks to startled onlookers. “I’ve just been bedeviled lately.”
