In an uncertain world of turmoil and strife, whom can we turn to for a summery of happenings from this, our global village? The answer is Shaun Barnes, his column begins now…

I am not normally a believer in the “liberal media”, just the “bad media” and thus a whole-hearted supporter of this site’s avowed corpse poking. However, sometimes bias rears its ugly head and combines with lazy journalism to form the perfect storm.
This was what I stumbled upon when I found CNN’s Paula Zahn using President Bush’s visit to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference in Vietnam as an excuse to mull the resemblance of the Iraq War to US involvement in Indochina. Leaving aside the questionable nature of this analogy, why, with a nuclear-armed whack job shooting his faux transvestite mouth off, Russia and Vietnam nearing entry to the WTO, the push for normalized trade relations between the US and the host country being ratcheted up, not to mention China’s bratty offspring Taiwan tearing itself apart, would you make your APEC story about a war that ended 30 years ago? Did Oliver Stone write a letter?
In fact, why stop with Vietnam? Why don’t we compare the Iraq war with other wars that happened in other places with no connection. Cuba, Virginia, Narnia, the options are endless.
Then again, perhaps some fault lies with Bush himself for his tactless decision to blast “Ride of the Valkyries” from Marine One in order to announce his arrival in Hanoi. How do you kill female journalists? Easy, don’t lead them as much.
