Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has grown increasingly ornery, effectively declaring his independence from US occupation forces by vetoing a coalition-designed Baghdad checkpoint strategy and stating emphatically that he is “not America’s man in Iraq”. They grow up so fast…
Also, earlier this week, unemployed dictator Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging. A $1.8 billion cost-plus contract for construction of the gallows has been awarded to Kellogg Brown & Root, so you can expect preparations to be complete no later than February of 2009. This makes the hope that Saddam will be found eerily swinging from a noose consisting of bed sheets and broken dreams not only a beautiful dream, but a shrewd cost cutting measure. Symbolic public executions don’t grow on trees.
