At Least You’re Not In The Well…

Let me state for the record that I like the Anti-Defamation League, in fact, I generally love Jews in general. I grew up around them in South Florida and learned to love a public school system forced to recognize holidays I didn’t need to. This usually meant that the rest of the neighborhood kids and I could play football without the asthma kids, it was kind of awesome.

The only thing that tends to bug me about the ol’ ADL is their hair trigger on cultural issues. For instance, their wishy-washy half wrist slap for the new Borat movie. Here is my completely unauthorized paraphrase:

You know… we know the movie is about making fun of stereotypes and we get that and all. Really, we totally get it. But you know, there are others that maybe won’t get it. See those people are already hardened racists and there is little we can do, but we don’t want them laughing AT us while we are laughing WITH us even if it’s in a theater where people will be laughing AT them for being mouth breathing morons.

Also, we feel sorry for the nation of Kazakhstan, you should have made up another country, like in “Coming To America.”

That’s a fake country in “Coming To America” right?

Call me crazy, but if the ADL spent less time on little things like this then they might have a little more social capital when they really want to hammer the nasty anti-Semites of the world. Just a thought.

However, I really do not expect this kind of stuff to ever change. If there is one thing I learned growing up, the Chosen People are quite the prolific letter writers.
