Okay, So Maybe A Year Was Premature

When this site started, me and Div Pub Overlord Rob Howard were really filled with piss and vinegar about few things more than TimesSelect. In fact, we went so far as to create a death pool for the online cash grab, set at one year. Well, those who took the ‘over’ can file to the imaginary window and cash in their imaginary bet, because TS is still going strong.
According to Editor and Publisher today, there are about 200,000 web-only subs which accounts for roughly 37% of the total Select audience since paper subscribers get the service for free. Of course, this news was released by the Times so there is no methodology as to how free trials or giveaways might pad the data as is so routinely done in paper circs.
But oh well, I guess we owe the NYT an apology. We’re sorry TimesSelect, I guess you might be here to stay after al…. wait…. you mean the subscriptions seem to be leveling off? Set the clock for September 21, 2007. Who’s got the action?
