Worst Lede Of The Week

September 20th, 2006 by Justin

I hope these boy like mintsHere we are again and I sure do have a couple of real winners for all 15 of you to enjoy.

Our first comes from USA Today. The scribe in question decided to pen an analogy lede that could really cut across a wide cultural swatch. It takes a real crisp vision to write about the turnaround challenges of the International Space Station in the same vein as keeping a vacation home nice n’ tidy. Congratulations, Traci Watson you have written one of the Worst Ledes Of The Week.

As shuttle undocks International Space Station awaits next wave of guests

Anyone with a cottage at the beach or a cabin in the woods can sympathize with astronaut Jeffrey Williams. After waving goodbye to one batch of house guests on Sunday, he will barely have time to tidy up before receiving the next wave of visitors Wednesday.

Not to be outdone, we have a high minded literary lede that truly demonstrates competence and comprehension. I imagine the author took several English Lit classes in college or at least fancies himself one of those blue collar “Good Will Hunting”-type smarty pants. When he strolls about the office (collar may or may not be popped) he makes sure to ask his co-workers what they’re reading even though he god damn well knows it’s Tom Clancy.

“Oh, I’ve heard he’s good,” he smugly replies as his brain high fives his heart in self-indulgent satisfaction.

Well, congratulations Shane Graber of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, your knowledge of inspirational quotelets allowed you to write the final Worst Lede Of The Week.

Commuters are split on Poplar split

Two roads lay diverged before a Mississippi River bridge, and you, you want to take the one less traveled by. That would make all the difference.

Or would it?

Thanks to everyone who contributed. Please send any and all shitty ledes to Justin@MediaBitchfest.com, remember, all contributions will remain anonymous. We are building a revolution, one frustrated copy editor at a time.

Good day.

Or will it?
