Three Stars of the Newscycle: 9.11.06

You know that point in a series of movies where the bad guy is defeated and is banished or has to go to prison or something. Then in like the third or fourth movie he comes back, but is seemingly reformed. He says all the right things and makes all the right moves, he doesn’t have the same stubborn reliance on hyperbole or mean streak that formally defined him. Of course, it is all an elaborate ruse and just as the tide of public opinion has turned in his favor he uses his newly harvested good will to conduct his most nefarious plot ever.
Yeah, that’s all I can think about when I read the first story.
• Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatami continues his “feel good” tour by telling Harvard students that democracy and peace are the only true ways. Then again, this piece by the Crimson seems to tell a completely different story. Whatever.
• Al-Q #2 sez Boom Boom for Hebrews next tent pole production
• What’s worse than a bunch of generally dull and vaguely prejudiced Americans running Abu Ghraib? A bunch of newly minted Iraqi soldiers with personal grudges.
Whoops!
