Leakfest ‘05 Jumps Breaks Record For Sharks Jumped

You know the drill: Rove, leaks, Plame, Libby, Judy Miller, CIA, yellow cake, Niger, Iraq, blah, blah and blah.
So why is it back in the news, well after several gun jumpings we possibly, maybe on the cusp of hearing if Karl Rove will get the Scooter treatment as it relates to perjury charges. The new news is leaked parts of his earlier testimony which seem to suggest he and Ham Incubator Bob Novak may have acted in concert to avoid Rove going to jail.

Dan Richman, a law school professor at Fordham University and a former federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, says that perjury and obstruction cases are difficult to bring. “In many instances, you almost have to literally take the jury inside a defendant’s head to demonstrate their intent,” he said.
As of now, it appears unlikely that Fitzgerald will bring charges related to the September 29 conversation, according to Richman and other legal experts. Even if the prosecutor and his investigative team conclude that Rove and Novak did indeed devise a cover story to protect Rove, it is simply too difficult to prove what happened in a private conversation between two people.
It’s not a big thing, but at this stage in the game if there is ANY news in relation to the possible charges, it has to come with a qualification and context into what it might do. If this is something Fitzgerald has known about forever, then what has he done to corroborate it? Is there a way to prove it? Are we just jerking off to kill the time?
Personally, I have two reasons why I think Rove is going to skate-
1. He’s too good. People like to bring up how he was fired from a George H. W. Bush’s reelection campaign for leaking a story to Novak, but to me that’s exactly why he would never make the same mistake. I am not saying he didn’t leak, I am just saying he’s better at hiding it and good enough (I’d bet) to stay out of legal trouble.
2. He can only be unmade in the fires of Mount Doom.
But oh well, like sands through the hourglass, so marches Leakfest ‘05.
