Wait Until You See What They Do On ‘Good Friday’

Kids these days, all they want to do is listen to their iPods and date each others moms. Gone is that sense of history, that institutional knowledge of their forefathers’ suffering, struggling and triumph.
But you can’t always blame the schools, they try to teach these kids what from what. For instance, in the sleepy Orlando suburb of Apopka, the titular middle school decided to show a bunch of wise cracking eighth graders what it was like to be a Jew during the holocaust. Half the kids were made to wear yellow stars (no doubt setting a world record for quoting Office Space) and the other half, along with the administration, got to send them to the back of the lunch line at a whim, make them drink out of different water fountains and employ them in factories that made faulty war munitions.
Of course, since this little experiment went on without consent or notification, some parents are complaining. But why do you think they’re angry?
Father John Tinnelly said his son was forced to stand in the back of the classroom and not allowed to sit because he was wearing the yellow star.
…“He was crying,” Tinnelly said. “I said, ‘What are you crying about?’ He said, ‘Daddy, I was a Jew today.’”
Yup, it seems as if this little field drill only served to make these kids understand that being a Jew in a modern middle school is a horrendous curse and as a privileged white American one should pity them with every fiber of their compassionate nature. Great.
Not to mention that if the worst the Jews had to suffer through during the holocaust were cold lunches and shitty water fountains, well, we’d have a couple million more Jews hanging around now wouldn’t we. In fact, from the description in the article, the exercise sounds more analogous to the American-grown racism of institutionalized social and educational segregation and subsequent forced integration. Then again, buying black face for 300 students was probably a little to pricey for a public school budget.
