Random Sports thoughts…

November 11th, 2005 by Bitchfest

Okay, so in a move that has upgraded Media Bitchfest from “Blog that my mom doesn’t even read” to “Blog that my mom still doesn’t read but was once read by a guy who works for Gawker,” Will Leitch from Deadspin.com had this to say about MBF:

“Hey, your blog isn’t shitty.”

I could go ahead and put that in context, but instead, I’ll quit while I’m ahead.

A few sports thoughts though:

-as mercilessly lampooned on the Deadspin site. Sportscenter has been doing these INCREDIBLY lame “press conferences” where baseball guru Steve Phillips pretends to be a “GM” for different “teams.” These are only aided and abetted by actual journalists like Buster Onley, who pretty much has no choice but to initiate stand-out, informative stories on 90’s steroid use just to keep his head above water.

Here’s my thing, is Steve Phillips the best you could get for this? The reach of ABC/Disney could only yield you Phillips, Olney and whichever interns had their cars blocked in? Fuck, the Weather Channel got Lewis Black. Adam Carolla is building houses on TLC for Christ’s sake, he would look great in the hot seat:

“Llllisten, here’s the thing with Hideki Matsui’s contract. You ever tried to mastrabate with your hand backwards and pretend its from someone dyslexic? That’s what it’s like negotiating with Arn Tellum.”

- If Arrested Development gets canned AND we don’t get to see the Caronlina Top Cat kittens naked and/or cavorting, this will be the biggest let down of a week ever.

- I am not really sure how to react to the new groundswell of post-book release love for The Sports Guy. And I don’t know if he does either. I am not saying he’s slipping or cracking, I am just saying that peeps need to lay off for a second. He already lays down like 4 columns a week of above-average pop.sports awesomness, but some people can’t get enough. Remember what happened with your puppy, Lenny.

Worth mentioning.
