We love The Sports Guy almost as much as Deadspin.com

September 28th, 2005 by Bitchfest

Bill “The Sports Guy” Simmons is easily the most readable writer on ESPN.com. His voice is defined, his sports knowledge is impressive and his range of pop culture references is nothing short of magnificent for his field.

But what has really impressed the Media Bitchfest staff is his new, The Curious Guy, column. Although it is basically a compilation of overwrought emails between him and a pop culture cog, it provides a breath of fresh air in what is too often a breeding ground for Fowarded Humor Email level writing on Page 2.

The now-completed two part installment with author Chuck Klosterman is really a treat. They run over a gamant of topics including: who the most underrated sports freak is, Shaq’s impending campaign for president and blogs that do nothing but link to other articles and live to snipe.

Good job, Simmons. Good job.

Suggestion for next time, talk to Christopher Hitchens. I would pay TimesSelect prices to see about 8,000 words of the two of them exchanging drinking stories.

Simmons: …and then my buddy House downed the last of the stien. Puked on top of the bridesmaid, before cartwheeling into the pool. I blacked out about then.

Hitchens: Great story, but I raise you this. 1987, by the time I get to Edward Said’s house, he is alreay naked…

Priceless
